It’s a new year and a whole new ballgame when it comes to getting money to pay for home energy upgrades. Garfield County households can now qualify for thousands of dollars in rebates for major projects – projects that will save money and improve home comfort for years to come – in many cases with little or no money out of pocket.
Several new energy efficiency and clean energy incentives have come on line in 2025, and what really sweetens the deal is that they can be stacked. That means, for example, if your utility offers a 50% rebate on a given measure and a couple of other programs each offer 25% funding for the same thing, you can add them all up and get 100% funding.
It may sound too good to be true, but it’s for real! Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new:
- The Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) is now funding projects in Garfield County. They’ll cover 50% of the cost of weatherization and energy efficiency measures up to $2,500, and 50% of electrification measures (e.g., replacing a gas furnace with an electric heat pump system) up to $7,500. Plus, there are higher caps for local workforce (“community priority participants”) and income-qualified households.
- Thanks to funding from Energy Smart Colorado, income-qualified residents in our county can get 75% of the cost of weatherization projects, up to $2,000.
- As part of its Clean Heat Plan, Xcel Energy has tripled its customer rebates on heat pumps and heat pump water heaters and is now offering 45% funding for insulation and air sealing.
- The first of two federal Inflation Reduction Act programs is now operational in Colorado: the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program offers low-income families 100% funding for things like heat pumps and associated electrical work, up to $14,000*.
- The cost of a home energy assessment – the gateway to most energy upgrades – has been reduced from $200 to $100 for all Garfield County residents, thanks to CORE. (And it’s free for income-qualified households.)
All of the above are on top of the usual utility rebates and Garfield Clean Energy’s own financial aid program, ReEnergize Garfield County – not to mention federal and state tax credits. When you stack it all up, it amounts to a blowout sale on home energy efficiency.
