Garfield Clean Energy column: Western Colorado’s geothermal energy future might not fit in one box
What happens when energy production, buildings, infrastructure and the customers using that energy are all part of the same project?
Garfield Clean Energy and CLEER have been exploring this question through geothermal market-building work. This spring, we partnered with the Grand Junction Economic Partnership to bring geothermal developers together with local governments, businesses, drillers and community members. One goal was simple: understand how communities will have a say as projects move toward permitting and development.

New regulations for public retail EV chargers in Colorado
Changes are coming to Colorado’s retail electric vehicle (EV) charging ports.
The Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety recently implemented Retail Electric Vehicle Charging Regulations that serve to establish a consistent and mandatory baseline charging experience for all retail EV chargers.
These regulations apply to public-facing EV chargers that charge for service per kilowatt-hour. All such EV chargers must comply with the registration, certification, and labeling requirements by July 1, 2027 (implementation requirements vary depending on the installation date).
If you think these regulations apply to your installed EV chargers or EV chargers you are looking to install, visit the webpage for more information or reach out with questions.
