PROGRAMS & SERVICES: CLEER (CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY FOR THE REGION)

How are you celebrating Earth Day?

Today is Earth Day! Garfield County residents care a lot about their natural resources, and Garfield Clean Energy partners work year-round to ensure people can connect with programs ranging from EV adoption to heat pump installation to turf replacement and more.

What do these programs all have in common? They help save people money while also benefitting our environment.

The success of these programs wouldn’t be possible without the support of our GCE partners: Garfield County, City of Rifle, Town of Silt, Town of New Castle, City of Glenwood Springs, Town of Carbondale, Town of Parachute, Colorado Mountain College, Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, Holy Cross Energy (affiliate), Garfield County Libraries (affiliate).

Earth Day is a great opportunity to recognize our collective effort to protect our mountain and rural home – it’s also a great opportunity to get involved in your community. A lot of Garfield County residents and businesses had Earth Day events earlier this month, but others are going on today or this coming weekend. You could also consider what small measures you can do to recognize Earth Day such as biking to the grocery store or organizing a neighborhood cleanup crew.

Used EVs: A timely solution to pricey gas

It’s hard not to feel the gas pump pinch these days. Since the beginning of the year, fuel prices have risen by nearly 20% nationwide – and prices could stay high or keep rising.

The good news is that with many electric vehicle (EV) leases ending nationwide, used EV prices have dropped to the point of being practically in line with their traditional fuel-powered counterparts. But even if you pay a bit more up front for a used EV, there are plenty more upsides to consider.

In GCE's April column in the Post Independent, we highlight the many benefits of buying a used EV, including robust battery life, cost parity with gas-powered automobiles, and more.

As drought deepens, Glenwood Springs residents should consider water-saving grants offered by the City

With a historically low snowpack, record-setting temperatures and an already stressed Colorado River, our water situation in Garfield County is dire this year.

For Glenwood Springs water users, there’s help available to make your home and lawn more water-conscious and drought-resistant. The City of Glenwood Springs is offering water customers financial help with replacing old appliances or removing turf and replacing it with drought-resistant landscaping.

Community e-mobility project planning and EV infrastructure grants available

Applications are open this spring for two different grant programs:

  • The Community Accelerated Mobility Project (CAMP) Program – Technical Readiness Planning Phase funding round is accepting applications from April 9th to June 2nd. If awarded, it would provide up to $75,000 in grant funding for technical readiness planning for community electric mobility (e-mobility) projects.
  • A standard application cycle of Charge Ahead Colorado, a grant opportunity for public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, will also be open from May 11 to June 12, 2026. Reach out to us for more information and to learn about the new incentive for outlet charging in deeded and assigned parking spaces at multi-family housing and homeowners associations.

Please let us know if you are interested in either of these grant opportunities, want to connect, or have any questions. We are here to help!
